Globalization, fist began in 18th century and it continues through to the 21st century (UKEssays, 2018). During this period of time, the first, second and the third industrial revolution took place. The first industrial revolution occurred in 18th century in manufacturing sector. The second industrial revolution occurred in service sector industries. At this point of time, all of us are in the 21st century, going through the 3rd industrial revolution, known as the information age (Malhotra, 2009).
(Anon., n.d.)
The technological changes during the
industrial revolution is shown in the above diagram. These technological
advancements are related to production, distribution and communication sectors,
which makes interaction between nations which were not even imaginable before (UKEssays, 2018). As Thomas
Friedman’s said “Globalization is not a choice. Basically, 80% of it is driven
by technology” (Friedman, 2000).
Products based on or improved by information technology
are used in almost every aspect of life in today's industrial society. The spread of IT and its applications is extremely fast (Anon., 2019). Transportation costs
are rapidly decreasing due to the improvements in physical communication with
the help of improved telecommunication, computers, fiber optics and satellites.
Due to this, transportation of goods and
information, flows through nations more quickly and efficiently (Anon., 2019).
The concept of e-commerce is also immerged due to the advancement
of information technology, with makes possible to conduct business through
means of electronic communication (Malhotra, 2009). The internet has
transformed the way that the small business operates and given them the opportunity
to enter into the global market (UKEssays, 2018).
Cultural globalization has also influenced by technology
with the introduction of telephones and television. Due to the technological breakthrough
in communication, making a call to friend in another country or explore the
vast variety of TV channels is just one touch of a button away (UKEssays, 2018). So, with all these evidence
and facts, its very clear that the technology agitate the globalization.
